“Thomas Jefferson wrote that “all men are created equal.” But his belief in these words was put up to a test when his friend, the Polish and American war hero Thaddeus Kosciuszko, made him the executor of his will. In it, Kosciuszko bequeathed his estate to liberating and educating African American slaves. Did Jefferson execute Kosciuszko’s will? Who was Thaddeus Kosciuszko and how did he become “the hero of two nations”?”
